Saga Writing!

Over the past two weeks the children have been planning and drafting their 100 word story for the Young Writers Once Upon a Time writing competition. Today the children write up their final version on their entry form ready to be posted off before Christmas. We wish all the children good luck and hope we have a winner in our midst! 

Fantastic French

We have a French lesson every week and the children are getting more and more confident in their French speaking. The lessons are always lively and fun and the children particularly enjoy listening to French songs. Our Soup Kitchen

From cooking up the range of delicious soup recipes to cleaning up our kitchen, serving the adults to carrying out evaluations the children of Class 6 ran a very successful soup kitchen on Wednesday 22nd October. In the process they made £21.20 which all goes towards the cost of the trip to Skelton Grange they made earlier in the term. Well done everybody!!

Leeds' Children's Mayor

This week we chose our nomination for the Leeds's Children Mayor competition. The whole class had written their manifesto in previous weeks and Mrs Strickland shortlisted to get four candidates. These were Luke S, Mia A, Neve A and Chloe J.

All four children presented their manifesto to the class and then took part in a Q&A session after which we voted by secret ballot for our preferred candidate. It was a close run thing but Luke S gained the most votes. Well done Luke! His entry will now be sent off to the Leeds judges as Great Preston's candidate; the judges choose 10 finalists so fingers crossed Luke gets into the top 10!

Skelton Grange Trip

2014-15 NEW ACADEMIC YEAR

The children have made a good start to Y6. They are rising to the challenges that their roles bring in setting the standard of behaviour and attitudes for the rest of the school.

Our new topic - World War 1

This half term we are going to study the World War 1 in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the war. Today we walked to the Great Preston War Memorial to stimulate our thoughts about the war. If you have any photos, medals or other artefacts relating to World War 1 we would love to see them; also if you know anything about the people named on the monument it would be great for the children to find out about them.
